U6 agree to funding Indigenous and Black Students in Engineering and Technology (IBET) to pursue advanced degrees without incurring financial hardship. These IBET Momentum Fellowships also include a mentorship program allowing these young scholars to connect with Indigenous and Black faculty members and industry representatives.
Based on the successful Black PhD Project in the US, the IBET PhD Project aims to create a vibrant cluster of Indigenous and Black scholars, that better reflect Canada’s demographics, and who in turn will inspire Indigenous and Black students as role models and mentors.
More information is available directly from the U6 – McMaster University, University of Ottawa, Queen’s University, University of Toronto, University of Waterloo and Western University.
Engineering institutions across Canada are encouraged to get involved and grow the program to a pan-Canadian collaboration – Contact Mary A Wells, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, University of Waterloo.
