A team of enthusiastic 4th year software engineering students from the University of Victoria, consisting of Arun Alex, Christian Bookout, Julian France and Scott Kenning took home the prize. A design solution to support overworked hospital staff and to speed up the healthcare system, their machine learning model identifies brain tumors from MRI images with an accuracy rate above 99%.

“We innovated by generating a heat map that displays where the tumour is located, if one was identified, and created a web user interface that allows users to interact with the model directly by uploading their own images.”
