The Canadian Engineering Grand Challenges (2020-2030), were developed and endorsed by Engineering Deans Canada in 2020 as a way to inspire action to improve life for Canadians and the world.

These Grand Challenges are rooted in the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and each challenge is a broad but discrete concept where engineering expertise and leadership can be brought to bear on bold new ideas and engineering innovations that will improve Canadian life.

As a way to engage our engineering students with these Grand Challenges, a Pilot co-op program-online skills development was developed at the University of Waterloo entitled ”Creation of Engineering Solutions to address Canadian Engineering Grand Challenges” in Spring 2020.

As part of this pilot program, Sandy Lee, an undergraduate student in electrical engineering at the University of Waterloo, created two videos to introduce the public to the Canadian Engineering Grand Challenges as well as the challenge areas.
