Committees 

Engineering Deans Canada is supported by committees, each responsible for advancing the organization’s agenda towards excellence in engineering education and research.

The Executive Committee is responsible for the general management of the affairs and business of  Engineering Deans Canada. They are responsible for formulating policy for discussion at regular meetings.

The Research Committee is responsible for:

  • overseeing and providing input on the collection of data/statistic compiled by Engineers Canada
  • collecting and sharing other pertinent data or information of relevance
  • providing information to other committees to support advocacy to funding agencies, government and industry
  • collecting success stories to serve advocacy efforts
  • evaluating methodologies and metrics for international rankings
  • provides a forum for ongoing dialogue between the Canadian engineering research community and the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council on matters of broad interest

The Deans Liaison Committee is responsible for moderating the relationship between Engineering Deans Canada and the Canadian Engineering Accrediation Board regarding accrediation of undergraduate engineering programs in Canada. 

The Education Committee is responsible for:

  • developing position statements with respect to the education of engineering students
  • encouraging and facilitating innovation in engineering education and the sharing of best practices between institutions
  • identifying trends and developments in engineering education affecting members and making recommendations with respect to these developments
  • consulting with stakeholders to identify needs on the preparation of engineering graduates for entry into industry
  • enabling members to inform their stakeholders of the national perspective on issues related to engineering education
  • consulting with members on issues to be addressed by the committee
  • coordinating its activities with other committees to inform its own deliberations and to ensure consistency and complementarity of its efforts in support of larger interests

The Public Policy Committee is responsible for:

  • developing information, advocacy, and position statements
  • informing members on issues related to education and research, and the relationship to major public policy issues (e.g. climate change, infrastructure, innovation)
  • identifying national and global trends and developments in government and industry affecting engineering education and research
  • consulting with members on issues to be addressed by the committee

The Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Committee is responsible for:

  • developing positions statements with respect to Equity, Diversity and Inclusion in engineering post-secondary institutions/units and in the engineering profession
  • sharing of best practices on student diversity and Equity, Diversity and Inclusion in engineering
  • identifying trends and developments in Equity, Diversity and Inclusion affecting members and making recommendations with respect to these developments
  • consulting with members on issues to be addressed by the committee
  • coordinating with potential partner organizations on topics related to Equity, Diversity and Inclusion
  • liaising with partner organizations on topics related to student diversity
  • coordinating its activities with those of other committees in the support of larger interests

The Nominations Committee is responsible to prepare a list of candidates to fill such vacancies as may occur within the Executive Committee, to be presented at a general meeting Engineering Deans Canada.
